Standard Orbit: A Star Trek Original Series Podcast
99: More Perfect

Deep Space Nine: “Trials and Tribble-ations” with Matthew Rushing.

Anniversaries should be special times, bringing loved ones together no matter how far apart they may be. In this episode of Standard Orbit, Mike and Drew are joined by Matthew Rushing from The Orb to discuss Deep Space Nine's love letter to The Original Series, "Trials and Tribble-ations". We talk about the difficulty of picking the best episode of DS9, which version of the K-7 mission actually happened, and how it works for people who've only seen TOS.

98: Mad McCoy

IDW Ongoing Comic Comparison: The Tholian Webs.

Sometimes you can't help but go a little mad sometimes, especially when your ship gets caught in interphase and surrounded by an impenetrable web. In this episode of Standard Orbit, Mike and Drew catch up with the IDW Ongoing comics and compare their "The Tholian Webs" with the original episode. During the episode, Mike manages to fix the logic of a similar Next Generation episode, we discuss why some people pronounce "Han" differently, and Drew comes up with another theory of what character Idris Elba is going to play in Star Trek Beyond.

97: The Threshold of Quantum Leap

Voyager: “Flashback” with Charlynn Schmiedt.

Not every crossover between series can be a winner. In this episode of Standard Orbit, Mike and Drew are joined by Charlynn from To The Journey to flash back to "Flashback". While it is cool that they managed to get the entire crew from The Undiscovered Country back on board (except for Christian Slater), the episode begs a lot of questions like: How do memories see observers? Was Janeway too busy to watch TOS like the TNG crew did? Did she watch it later as inspiration for her actions in the later seasons of VGR? Is “Flashback” the canon expanded universe of Star Trek? Find out if we can answer these questions and more in our discussion! Also, we answer listener mail including a voicemail!

96: The New Hope

Trekipedia with Jeffery Harlan.

For some people, history is life, even if its fictional history. In this episode ofStandard Orbit, Mike and Drew talk to Jeffery Harlan about his website, "Trekipedia" and what has been called the "grand unified theory of Star Trek". As we get to know him and his site, Jeffery amazes us with trivia, gives us reading recommendations, and lets us know just how intensive building a site like this can be.
