Standard Orbit: A Star Trek Original Series Podcast

Standard Orbit 174: Battle of the Battles

Battle of the Mutara Nebula Vs. Battle of Khitomer

Star Trek was never about big space battles but the movies, as well as the series, had some pretty intense skirmishes. In this week's Standard Orbit: we look at two big battles from the TOS movie timeline: TWOK's Battle of the Mutara Nebula and TUC's Battle of Khitomer.

Zach Moore is still off filming in an undisclosed location. Earl Grey's Richard Marquez joins me to discuss these two exciting scenes and compare the differences in approach, scale, tactics, and outcome. We talk about a possible different scenario for the Battle of Khitomer as well. We hope you enjoy this week's episode of Standard Orbit and share your insights and opinions on the Babel Conference.

Standard Orbit 173: Full Motion Picture

Why Star Trek The Motion Picture Works

Excerpt (iTunes Subtitle)
This week on Standard Orbit we dive into the areas of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. What worked well, where were the gaps, and why this movie is growing in popularity as time passes.

Long time TMP advocate Ken is joined by another outspoken fan of the movie, Aaron Harvey, co-hosting while Zach is off filming the Green Berets. Aaron and Ken step back from their biases and discuss the various aspects of this picture. They connect the relationship to the original TV show through to the sequels and on to The Next Generation. Permission to come aboard is granted; as it is time to leave space dock and warp into a another fun episode of Standard Orbit.

Will Stape Interview.

The Original Series was a very provocative series for its time often pushing the envelope in many categories. In this episode of Standard Orbit, Will Stape joins us to discuss the portrayal of love, relationships and sexuality in TOS as examined in his recent book, "Star Trek Sex: Analyzing the Most Sexually Charged Episodes of the Original Series."

Will is also one of a select few freelance writers who sold scripts to The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine back in the days of Star Trek's open script submission policy. He shares the inspiration and production stories behind his episodes Homeward and Prophet Motive!
