Standard Orbit: A Star Trek Original Series Podcast

Tales from the Set of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Jon Lee Brody is an actor, writer, director and producer but more importantly in terms of Star Trek...a redshirt! In this episode of Standard Orbit, Jon shares his experiences of breaking into the film business, directing his own short film, and playing a security officer in Star Trek Into Darkness.

From inside jokes with JJ Abrams to breaking the ice with Simon Pegg, Jon recounts some great stories from his time on set. We also talk in depth about his short film Police Guys, and have a solid tangent about the DC Comics universe on film and television.

161: Origins: USS Enterprise

Standard Orbit 161: Origins-USS Enterprise

The Storied History of the Real Ships named Enterprise

In 1964, Gene Roddenberry pitched a show about the Starship Yorktown under the Command of Captain Robert April exploring strange new worlds. As the show evolved the name of the ship was changed to Enterprise. Though there is nothing in the show history that tells us exactly why the name of the ship was changed, Zach and Ken explore the reason and the recent history of two incredible real life ships named Enterprise that could have influenced the decision.

Prepare yourselves for some really interesting history and some awesome parallels between our beloved starship and the accomplishments of the historical ships. We also are able to discuss the feasibility of so many older class starships continuing their service across the TNG and DS9 timelines. Sit back and enjoy learning why "history will never forget the name; Enterprise!

Standard Orbit 159: Star of Freedom and Peace

Uhura and Her Actresses.

Nyota Upenda Uhura is a truly beautiful name that translates to "star of freedom and peace." In this episode of Standard Orbit we discuss the impact of Uhura and how she has evolved as a character over the years from TOS and its movies, to the Kelvin Timeline, and even in fan productions such as Star Trek Continues.

Ken and Zach recount their personal encounters with Nichelle Nichols and Kim Stinger, as well as discuss the rise of Zoe Saldana as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, and how each actress has carried the mantle of Uhura with class.
