"Return To Tomorrow" Book with Preston Neal Jones
Sometimes a bad thing 40 years ago becomes a good thing today. In
this episode of Standard
Orbit, Mike and Drew talk with author Preston Neal Jones
about his oral history book on The
Motion Picture, "Return To Tomorrow". Originally planned
as a double-issue of the Cinefantastique magazine, Preston
interviewed 60 people involved with the making of the
first Star
Trek movie while it was being made. Now these interviews
are compiled into a 672-page book, making a "montage of memory" of
what it was like to be there in 1979 in the lead up to release.
What was the big problem with the making of the film? Was there
more than one? And is it OK to call Trekkers "Trekkies"? We discuss
this and more in this fascinating episode!
